CHRISTIAN REVENGE… again

The following came in an email from
my "good friend" and college
The Rev. Dr. David W. Anderson.

Lyle, thanks for the help with the bookshelves yesterday. Oh, by the way, I want them next to the window like yours. Don't bother to put up all my stuff, just the manuals on top of the filing cabinets. . . and the books on my desk. Well, you might as well get the stuff off my floor. Then feel free to take a brake. . or break?

Peace,
DWA

"Oh yes master David... What ever you say!"
I felt it my Christian duty...

6 months

9-mile Creek will is one of my new running places. Just a block from the office I enter into a whole different world. A beautiful fresh running stream through a wooded valley with many foot bridges and new places to discover.

Tomorrow will be 6 months since the funeral.

I ran today with another runner in my mind via a dream. The runner painted her own picture years ago. If you could see the other side you would discover a joyous smile, strangely enjoying kicking a soccer ball through that field. Someday I too will get to play…

Warming Up

Back outside for a balmy 22º run after several sub zero days. Honestly felt good to be out.

Randi’s mittins and hood seems to help keep life warmer.

And Craig! THANKS friend.

Worlds Best Chuck Roast…
Covered with a jar of horseradish and set in the bottom of the crock-pot.
Add a cup of carrots, a cup of diced onions, cup of celery, cup of mushrooms and a cup of pataotes.
One cup of water, one cup or red wine, seasonings…

Tomorrow night… you are all invited.

Bowls

The 17th again ---
6 months ---
Still walking onward---

Spent the night in the midst of kitchen projects!
Soup, breads, squash, and a couple other crazy ideas…

Debbie’s Bulger Wheat bread! A favorite for years, but never tackled by myself. Plus a couple first attempts from the new Moosewood Restaurant collection of recipies.
You mention you want to be and keep a little healthier and someone always steps forward to help! –Thanks someone.

It seems the scattered bowls, as I have been taught, are reminders of the vessels that God fills everyday. "God give us this day our daily bread." The bowls seemed to be filled and sometimes overflowing even when I think, expect, anticipate, assume the worst.

Still…

God is good - all the time
All the time - God is good

Too cold to run for a couple of days… so inside workouts will have to be appropriate

back to MN run

Running in MN cold
after running in AZ warm
makes for a slow run…
Or maybe it was the onion rings and tenderloin at Wallys.
Yuck, there is something I had been good at avoiding.

last AZ run

From worship to the streets, next to the airport to what someone just described as the real winter awaiting me in MN. My Extravaganza experience kept me in the midst of towering buildings near the Hyatt. Five runs, five directions but all led past incredible art, large sports stadiums, theaters, and then into to areas of great poverty. Such a curiosity, an obvious division, an illustration of something that doesn’t seem right, something that isn’t working, a brokenness that has no easy answer, if even there is an answer.

Extravaganza

The Extravaganza has become know as the town square where once a year hundreds of ELCA youth Ministers gather. I had the privilege of working with a pre-event training for a couple of days. An amazing, heartfelt, passionate group who came from all over for what I call Growing Groups. This is a curriculum Drew Brooks and myself wrote to help people better learn the art of facilitating. What we wanted was more of a learn-by-doing experience. It worked. The training group really did become a group who will not only stick close to each other, but will use the methodology to train others at their church.

Circle of Peace

Early morning Phoenix run… Didn’t see my shadow, but that could be because of the all the tall buildings and mountains.

Statues of a different kind I found this morning. So often I have invited kids to stand and form a circle. Most often they are closed. This circle was open with a welcoming hand. I couldn’t resist the invitation.

Answering Arlene

Arlene asks how I get the pictures of myself when I run.

Well Arlene, let me explain. Sometimes I tie a camera on a long poll with a string attached to the button. Other times I hire professional photographers to follow me in a go-cart. Other times, like here in downtown Phoenix, AZ in front of a theater, I give the camera to a nude statue and ask her to take my picture as I pass by all her nude friends. So there you have it, the mystery revealed. It is really quite simple. Feel free to ask any other questions, I am always glad to explain.
